A web hosting company is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called co-location. This is the company that keeps all your website files on one of their servers.

  • When a visitor views your website, they are actually viewing the files that are stored on the hosting company's server.
  • The hosting company may also provide your email service, if you use an address @ mydomain.com.
  • The registrar and the hosting company can be one in the same.
  • You will pay on-going fees to keep leasing the server space for your website and to keep your email up and running.
  • As part of your hosting account, you may have a "control panel". This is a website where you can manage your website's settings, email accounts, etc.
  • Your website files are posted to your hosting account using a VIA FTP. Your web developer uploads the files for you when ther go live with your website.

Web designer

A company like Web Candy, who designs and creats the files needed to create your website. It should be the web designers responsibility to ensure that the files that make up your site get properly transferred onto the server.
